Domestic Bliss
Ahhh… having a domestic helper is GRRREAT!
Of course a fair amount of adjustments to a loss of privacy had to be made, and much patience and hand-holding needed to explain in detail how we like things done around the house BUT on the overall, the experience these 3 days has been positive so far.
Ms E, my helper, is polite, initiative and hardworking. She smiles a great deal and is confident about her duties, without coming across as being overbearing or arrogant. *Smiles for me* – a positive attitude is always a plus in any employee.
We did our first systematic grocery shoping to stock up the kitchen this afternoon, after deciding on the menu for this week. She did most of the choosing and selecting of ingredients. I merely tagged along to make payment. Suddenly I know how my dad feels when he goes marketing with my mum, or how hubs feels when he shops with me. Talk about role reversal. Hee… hee…
Just now, as I walked into the kitchen, it felt strangely good to see the fridge and pantry well-stocked with fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, meat, cereals and spices – knowing that these will end up as piping hot nutritious meals in the coming week. Who would have thought that something as simple as this would feel so blissful and homely? And the best part - all with little culinary & cleaning up effort on my part
Of course I make sure I play an active role in planning the menu. That’s the least I could do… I think.
It’s a very new and unfamiliar feeling to be thrust into a purely role-making decision: All I have to do is to decide on something and someone else will execute my preference. This is DEFINITELY something I can get used to. Perhaps too used to.
I suddenly feel free to explore new dishes leisurely on Saturday mornings with such an able kitchen assistant by my side
First on my list – Pancakes!
Of course I could have done pancakes without a helper, but the pain of washing up batter has always been a great deterrent. Now I don’t even have to think about it. COOL!
Of course when Qiqi arrives, domestic life may not be as leisurely anymore. So I should really indulge while I can

Two of you look more like sisters. When I went to google earth to mark her residence, I happened to realize that she is from the same home town as the former PH president Ferdinand Marcos. No wonder she has the name quite close to that of the former first lady. BTW home cook meal is always good. Say bye bye to Den’s expired “fanchai”.
I’m envious! I’m the maid, the mother and wife all wrapped up in one and it can get very tiring.
Heibao > More home-cooked food!! yes that’s definitely one of the perks of having a maid. I look forward to that even more than clean floors and toilets.
DR > I can imagine! Have always been quite awed at how you cope and still whip out delicious looking meals
